PROSAFE SERVICES

PROSAFE primarily functions as an inspection authority to assess an organisation’s level of compliance in terms of legal and specified requirements. We furthermore collaborate with organisations and individuals to build capacity and improve performance through training, coaching and mentoring programmes and management systems.

Construction Sectors

PROSAFE provides health and safety support services to the construction sectors at four main levels: 1.Consulting and collaboration with Clients and Designers – during project coordination; design and documentation preparation relative to their obligations contemplated in the Construction Regulations, 2003; 2.Compliance Audits & Monitoring on behalf of Clients and Designers – to ensure that ongoing assessments of contractor performance are communicated to the relevant role-players as an input to construction project management (where the key objective is to ensure the health and safety of persons, and, as a minimum, that legal and contractual compliance is met); 3.Consulting and collaboration with Contractors regarding the preparation, implementation and maintenance of project-specific H&S Plans & Files, and 4.Training, on-the-job coaching and mentoring – to transfer skills and empower individuals and organisations with effective functional competencies that support management by objectives and compliance in terms of legal and contractual requirements (See below for more information on training).

ISO / OHSAS Management Systems – Implementation & Auditing

PROSAFE is also able to support organisations through consultation; training; on-the-job coaching and mentoring with regards to the collaborative implementation of ISO 9001:2008; ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 Management System Standards, as well as Integrated Management Systems. Furthermore, we are able to provide Second-party (external) Auditing services to an organisation in preparation for Certification Audits by a Certification Body and or on behalf of an organisation with regards to Vendor / Supplier approval.

Manufacturing Sectors

There are currently over 200 reputable Contractors utilising the PROSAFE SHE Management System and maintaining high standards in terms of Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) management. PROSAFE Auditors assess the SHE compliance and performance of Contractors engaged by a Principal Company to carry out works or services on company premises or projects. These Contractors are audited at fixed intervals and are allocated a colour-coded rating, indicating their level of achievement in this regard. A regularly updated list of all rated and qualified Contractors is sent out monthly to all Principal Companies associated with PROSAFE. PROSAFE is currently developing a dynamic and user-friendly web-based interface with the assistance of SEDA, which will be available to each of these Principal Companies. This interface will allow authorised representatives of the Principal Companies to access their company-specific Contractor profiles and information. Similar access will also be available to the Contractors utilising the PROSAFE SHE Management System in terms of their own and global profiles. The listed Contractors provide a wide variety of services to approximately 35 of the largest Principal Companies associated with PROSAFE in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro; e.g. Aberdare Cables; Algorax; Aspen Pharmacare; Borbet; Bridgestone Firestone SA; Cadbury; Coca-Cola Fortune; Continental Tyre SA; Corning Products SA; Eveready; Faurecia Autoplastic SA; Ford Motor Company of SA; General Motors SA; Goodyear SA; Guestro Wheels; Dorbyl Magnetto; SAB Miller; Volkswagen SA.
